This small Balearic island is justifiably popular with families, with dozens of tranquil coves, clear water and a relaxed atmosphere

With pristine beaches and clear, shallow waters, Menorca makes a great choice for a family holiday and there’s no shortage of family-friendly hotels either, from lively, all-inclusive beach resorts with splash parks and live entertainment to countryside haciendas in the tranquil hinterland.

The beauty of this Balearic island is that it is small, not too hilly and easy to get around, meaning that from your hotel base, it’s easy to explore the idyllic coves, markets and towns and attractions over the course of a week.

Meliá Cala Galdana   

On the sandy beach at Cala Galdana on Menorca’s south coast, this luxurious, contemporary hotel is super-family friendly but doesn’t compromise on style. Children who love the water will adore the splash park here with its jets and slides, but the hotel has plenty of other activities too. There are different kids’ clubs catering for four to 17-year-olds, as well as an indoor games room and the beach at Punta Prima on the south-east coast is only a few minutes’ walk. Hotel Seth 55, Santo Tomas

The vast 61 metre-long pool is just one of the attractions at this 165 room hotel on the edge of the sandy beach at Santo Tomas on the south coast. Marsenses Paradise Beach Club, Cala en Bosc 

Close to the white sands of Cala en Bosc, one of Menorca’s key beach resorts, this good value hotel is especially good for larger families, with 191 rooms and apartments sleeping up to six people. Minura Sur Menorca, Punta Prima  

Five minutes away from the lively Punta Prima beach resort, the Minura is attached to a water park which is free to access for hotel guests. Overlooking the pine-fringed beach at Cala Galdana, this stylish, whitewashed aparthotel has a large, kidney shaped pool as well as a small, toddlers’ pool, football and a small soft play area for babies and toddlers. Although slightly smaller than one or two other resort hotels, the 228-room Alua Illa is far from small and has plenty of kids’ activities. You’ll find two outdoor pools onsite, a children’s entertainment programme and a games room as well as ping pong and a giant chess board.
