Six people, including three children, have been killed in an attack on a nursery in China.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in the incident on Monday, which took place in Lianjiang, in the southeastern province of Guandong, China. Police said that the man went by the second name Wu.
Parents were dropping off their children for the start of the school day when the attack took place at around 7:40 am.
Local outlets reported that an unidentified witness claimed that the attacker’s child had been struck earlier by the car of one of the people who was killed at the school. It said that other video showed at least four people in a pool of blood outside the school.
A teacher and two parents are believed to be among the victims.
Violent crime is rare in China, but there has been a rise in school attacks in recent years. Two children were killed and 16 others were wounded in a similar attack in a school in the Jiangxi province in the southeast last year.
In 2010, there was a spate of mass stabbings at schools across the country, leaving nearly 100 dead.
Experts have said that poor treatment for mental illness, and a backlash against China’s restrictions at the height of the pandemic are typically blamed for the attacks, which usually involve knives. Gun ownership is illegal in China.
