What’s on TV tonight: Cooking With the Stars returns for a second course

Also, Bake Off: The Professionals starts on Channel 4 and Ross Kemp returns to acting in Channel 5’s Blindspot

Pick of the day: Cooking With the Stars

9pm, ITV1

ITV’s unexpectedly charming version of Celebrity MasterChef returns. It’s the contest where the celebs are paired with top chefs, who act as mentors, including Rosemary Shrager, Jean-Christophe Novelli and Michael Caines. Among those hoping to succeed last year’s winner, Dr Ranj Singh, are actors Jason Watkins and Joanna Page, Chris Eubank, Peter Andre, Steps’ Claire Richards and Busted’s Matt Willis. “How did you get on this competition?”, quips Tom Allen, because of course Allen’s co-host is Matt’s wife, Emma Willis. It’s Italian week to start, as Allen wonders “who will get pasta the first round and will make a fusilli mistakes?” Boom, boom.

Your Home Made Perfect

8pm, BBC Two

The home makeover show gets its first ever celebrity in need of architectural help. Actor and 2004 Strictly winner (she has the Glitterball trophy on a shelf to prove it) Jill Halfpenny has moved back to the North-East with her son Harvey after a lifetime of renting in London. Their top-floor apartment in Tynemouth is cramped and doesn’t flow properly over its two floors. Can competing architects Lynsey Elliot and Will Foster help?

Bake Off: The Professionals

8pm, Channel 4

It may lack the affection of The Great British Bake Off, but it obviously does the numbers for Channel 4 or they wouldn’t recommission this spin-off contest. Anyway, Ellie Taylor and Liam Charles welcome a new batch of pastry chefs to the tent and challenge them to create 36 individual opéra aux fruit and one chocolate amenity in three hours. For their showpiece, the teams must transform a classic banoffee pie into a fine-dining experience with edible sculptures. Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden judge.

Evacuation

9pm, Channel 4

The final part of this vivid account of the 2021 Kabul airlift begins with a deadly explosion in the sewage canal outside the evacuee handling centre, British soldiers rushing to search for anyone who can be saved. Working through the night with medics, they save and treat thousands of injured Afghans and American Marines. As they pull back from the Baron Hotel, they close the gate on hundreds of vulnerable civilians. Ultimately, the 20-year war comes to a tragic and unsatisfying end as the RAF turn to airlifting their own forces out of the country.

Blindspot

9pm, Channel 5

Known more as a documentary-maker these days, Ross Kemp returns to acting after a 15-year break to play a possibly corrupt police officer in this new home-grown Channel 5 crime drama. Newcomer Beth Alsbury stars in the lead however, as Hannah, a disabled woman who monitors the CCTV on a rough estate. One day she sees a man she knows is a violent criminal lead a young woman into a blind spot in the camera coverage. He emerges alone, but when the police arrive there is no sign of the woman.

Eric and Ernie

9pm, BBC Four

Another chance to see Peter Bowker’s 2011 drama charting the early years of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, focusing on the influence of Morecambe’s mother Sadie (Victoria Wood). With Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick as Eric and Ernie, and Jim Moir and Reece Shearsmith as their fathers.
